Tidings from the West

Greetings from the West Brethren,

Last month, we had a great turn-out for our Past Masters' night at the Gray Cliff Lodge.  Excellent dinner, great fellowship and more than enough cinnamon rolls for everyone!   Driving up Ogden Canyon, we could admire the fall colors of the myriad of trees with yellow, orange and red leaves.  A reminder that winter is just around the corner and with that, Thanksgiving and our annual tradition to prepare and deliver the Thanksgiving dinner to our Homeless Veterans.  Make sure to contact Dennis Wilcox if you want to help and contribute to this important event which is much appreciated by all who served but do not have a place they can call home.  A short note, Freemasonry is the oldest fraternal organization for men in the world.  The basic organizational unit of the fraternity is the lodge.  Its is believed that the term comes from the lodges or shelters constructed at the building sites of cathedrals and castles during the Middle Ages. Masons worked and lived in these shelters.  We, as Speculative Masons, use the lodge for the purpose of work and instruction and to build our “cathedrals”!

Although no one knows with certainty how or when the Masonic Fraternity was formed, a widely accepted theory among Masonic scholars is that it arose from the stonemasons' guilds during the Middle Ages. The language and symbols used in the fraternity's rituals also come from this era.

On the level my brothers, as always.

Fraternally,

Jean-Marie H. Pijuan
Senior Warden
